The Peling Lineage
The Peling lineage traces its origins to the great tertön (treasure revealer) Pema Lingpa (1450–1521), one of the most revered masters in the Nyingma tradition of Vajrayāna Buddhism. His cycles of teachings encompass the full spectrum of Buddhist practice—from foundational ethics and devotional practices to the most profound teachings and methods of Dzogchen.
For more than five centuries, the Peling lineage has flourished through an unbroken transmission of realized masters who have preserved its teachings with great care. Today, it remains one of Bhutan's most cherished spiritual traditions, serving as a source of guidance and inspiration for monastic communities and lay practitioners alike around the globe.
The strength of an authentic lineage lies not only in its history, but in the living transmission of realization, practice, and compassion from one generation to the next. H.H. Gangteng Tulku Rinpoche
His Holiness Gangteng Tulku Rinpoche, the Ninth Gangteng Tulku, is widely renowned as one of the most respected Buddhist masters of Bhutan. Recognized at an early age, he received extensive training under many of the greatest masters of the Nyingma tradition and has devoted his life to preserving and transmitting the authentic teachings of the Dharma.
Rinpoche is the abbot of the historic Gangtey Monastery in Bhutan, one of the principal seats of the Peling tradition founded by the grandson of Pema Lingpa. Under his guidance, the monastery has continued to flourish as a center of Buddhist learning, meditation, and monastic discipline while nurturing the spiritual lives of countless practitioners.
In addition to his work in Bhutan, Gangteng Tulku Rinpoche has established Dharma centers and educational initiatives throughout the world, making the profound teachings of the Peling lineage available to an international community. His emphasis on compassion, authentic practice, and the integration of wisdom into everyday life has inspired students across cultures.
The vision of Dharma Ati Ling is deeply inspired by Rinpoche's lifelong commitment to preserving the authentic Dharma while making it accessible to future generations.
Khenpo Wangchuk Jamtsho
Dharma Ati Ling is honored to be guided by Venerable Khenchen Wangchuk Jamtsho, a highly trained scholar, Dzogchen master, and revered teacher within the Peling lineage.
Khenpo Wangchuk received the title of Khenpo in 2014 from His Holiness Gangteng Tulku Rinpoche after years of rigorous study, practice, and examination. He previously served for fourteen years as Dorji Lopön at Drameytsi Monastic Institute, where he was responsible for guiding monks in ritual practice, meditation, retreat, and monastic education.
Following this appointment, he served as Vice Principal of Gangtey Shedra (Gangtey Buddhist University) and later as Principal of Tingtingbi Zangdopelri Monastery, helping educate and mentor the next generation of monks in Buddhist philosophy, contemplative practice, and monastic discipline.
Khenpo Wangchuk has completed extensive training in the traditional Buddhist curriculum, including philosophy, ritual, meditation, Ngöndro, Vajrayāna practice, and Dzogchen. His teaching style reflects both deep scholarship and genuine warmth, presenting profound teachings with clarity, humility, and compassion.
As the resident teacher of Dharma Ati Ling, Khenpo Wangchuk is dedicated to preserving the authentic transmission of the Buddha's teachings while helping students establish a stable foundation in study, contemplation, and meditation. Through regular teachings, retreats, personal guidance, and community practice, he embodies the living continuity of the lineage entrusted to him by his own teachers.
